About Me

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog! I initially set this blog up to share with friends and family but it seems to have grown in popularity over the years so feel free to have a look around and read my random ramblings!

I have always been pretty sporty and tried my hand at everything and anything growing up. You name it, I've done it! From high board diving to table tennis, from getting my brown belt in Karate to being county high jump champion, I've given it a go! I played county netball and county badminton as a teenager but it was hockey that I finally settled on at Loughborough University, playing in the National League and winning BUSA Gold (twice!).

I broke my jaw in a freak accident during a training day for the inter-regionals and was never quite the same player after that so enjoyed a stint of running with Coventry Godiva Harriers to keep fit.  I loved it but unfortunately didn't take to it easily and was always quite injury prone! A 10 month stint of sciatica saw me turning to the pool to keep fit by aqua jogging and swimming, as well as trying out spinning classes.  Before I knew it I was entering triathlons and by 2010 I well and truly had the bug.  I went on to earn my GB stripes and the rest, as they say, is history.

For 2011 and 2012 I raced around the UK and Europe as a GB Age Group athlete (nope - this is not the same as being an elite athlete, nor will I ever compete at the Olympics!) but I enjoyed steadily improving as an Age Grouper.  2013 saw my best season to date where I was delighted to become the British & European Age Group Triathlon Champion.  I also dabbled in a few elite races which were fantastic fun but did not quite suit my strengths of being a strong time-triallist.

2014 was a difficult season with reoccurring throat infections.  I developed an allergy to chlorine and raced with Glandular Fever. It's not surprising that I lost a little bit of my spark for racing and was disappointed with nearly all of my performances.  I missed many of the races that I had planned to do and didn't really have any races where I was at full health. I was still fortunate enough to win two European medals - silver at the European Duathlon in Horst, Holland and bronze at the European Aquathlon in Cologne, Germany which were massive silver linings and something I was very thankful for!

I've loved travelling, racing and making friends from all over the world.  All of my success has been achieved whilst working full time as a project manager in transport which is something I sort of fell into but absolutely love.  I've worked hard to fit in training and competing around working full time and ensuring I have enough time for an active social life with my friends and family.  The 2015 season will be completely different for me as we're expecting a baby! I can't wait to meet the new addition to our family! I'd like to think I'll make a return to the sport at some point but I'm more excited about spending time with our little one!  I guess in the mean time I'll either take a break from blogging or will be blogging about pregnancy!
